Movies for 11-Year-Olds: Not Too Scary, Not Too Childish
Jon Wilkinson · 9/14/2026

Your kid is 11 now and you are trying to find a movie they can enjoy that is not very violent but also not too childish. It is not always an easy task finding what film is best for their age group.
You probably would not want them getting nightmares from a movie like Coraline, a PG film that scared me as a kid. Here is a safe selection of movies that should be nightmare free for your little ones.
Three safe picks
Big stories without the bad dreams
Courage
David (2025)
Good for most 11-year-olds
David is a story about doing what you believe is right no matter the challenge you may face. It follows David from “David and Goliath,” including the events after the battle has transpired.
Throughout the story David shows perseverance and the belief that if he tries hard enough, he can achieve anything.
True story
Remember the Titans (2000)
Watch with a parent
Remember the Titans is based on a true story about a high school football team in 1971 Alexandria, Virginia — a place and time of segregation. Despite the era it takes place in, the message is very heartwarming.
The movie can get intense at times, so I recommend it be watched with a parent present. It shows how high schoolers in 1971 were able to overcome social norms and mob mentality to stand up for what is right.
Adventure
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Good for most 11-year-olds
Narnia is a story filled with bravery, betrayal and redemption. It follows four children during WWII who were sent away to escape the bombings.
The children are playing a game of hide and seek one day when they come upon a wardrobe to hide in. Once the wardrobe is closed, they are suddenly transported into the world of Narnia.
These are all great films that I am sure your younglings will enjoy. If you want a wider selection of movies your 11-year-old might like, take your pick from the whole catalog. There are great movies to choose from that your kids are sure to love and that you are sure to enjoy with them.
