50 Movies Every Kid Should See Before Age 12

Movies were a big part of my childhood. They brought my family together, but the best of them also taught me about courage, friendship, kindness and responsibility.

That is why protecting children from destructive content matters—and why sharing positive stories matters too. These 50 movies are not merely great entertainment. Each offers an idea or value worth carrying into the next generation.

Five to start with

Stories with something worth remembering

Toy Story

Pixar at its best, Toy Story turns jealousy into a story about friendship. Woody is Andy's favorite until Buzz Lightyear arrives. When both toys are separated from Andy, rivalry has to give way to cooperation—and, eventually, real friendship. It remains as enjoyable for parents as it is for kids, especially for the generation that grew up watching it.

Cars

Lightning McQueen begins obsessed with being number one and landing the best sponsors. Stranded in a small town, he comes to value friendship, kindness and community over winning. His final race shows just how much his priorities have changed.
