Som da Esperança: A História de Possum Trot

This was my favorite. It's about a small church where families took in kids from foster care. The acting was so good, and it showed how hard it really was for them. It made me smile and almost made me cry.

Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, 2024. Based on an incredible true story. It stars Demetrius Grosse and Nika King as a rural Texas pastor and his wife who refuse to look the other way while kids suffer. Won’t dive into the details too much, but they decide to open their own home first. It sets off a miraculous ripple effect across their small, working-class community of Possum Trot, inspiring everyday families to step up and adopt 77 of the hardest-to-place children in the local foster system. I loved the film because of how real it felt. The soundtrack is deeply moving, all parts are authentically acted, and the locations feel very alive, from the modest living rooms and vibrant, sweaty church pews to the worn-out social worker offices and dusty country roads. Demetrius and Nika don’t feel like Hollywood actors playing a part in this film… they’re just parents, trying to save these kids Willing to go through hell and back, battling severe behavioral trauma and intense emotional burnout, if that’s what it takes. The "villain" is amazingly well-done, too—represented not by a single hitman, but by the cold, crushing reality of a broken child welfare system and the deep scars of generational abuse. It always feels like Sound of Hope hasn’t received the mainstream accolades or recognition it so richly deserved. It doesn’t feel like your typical, overly-polished inspirational flick — it’s a raw, moving tale of community action, of unconditional love, and of ordinary people doing the extraordinary when the rest of the world looks away.

What I learned from this movie is that the choices we make can really affect our lives and our families. Sometimes we make wrong choices when we are looking for love or going through pain. It reminded me to be patient, show love, and always try to build my family up.
