I have just watched Project Hail Mary, but this is already one of the best movies of the entire year. Now the movie follows Ryland Grace, a high school science teacher who wakes up in a spaceship with no memory of the mission or why he's even light-years away from Earth, only to later find out that he's humanity's last hope. I know it's not exactly breaking news that Ryan Gosling is a good actor, but I think it's worth mentioning that this man gives an incredible performance in this movie. I mean, he completely nails this reluctant, frightening, and yet charming astronaut kind of forced to figure out things along the way. I was able to read the book before watching the movie, so I was a little bit nervous to see how a couple of those key moments from the story were going to play out here, but I am here to report it is probably better than anything you imagined while reading the book. Visually, this film is just absolutely stunning to look at. Some of the shots in here actually deserve to be hung up in a museum. I have also never felt this emotionally attached to a rock in my life. I don't want to give away too much, but in my opinion, this is the best movie of 2026. It is my favorite movie of the year so far. So, this is a no-brainer, Project Hail Mary gets a 4.5 out of 5.
